Loud Blasts and Plumes of Smoke Reported in Central Tehran
As per on-the-ground reports, two powerful explosions were heard in Tehran on Saturday morning. Simultaneously, two plumes of thick smoke were seen billowing over central and eastern districts of the Iranian capital.
“The type of explosions suggests that this is a missile attack,” one news agency reported, though it did not initially provide additional information.
Background: Escalating Strains and Prior Events
This event occurs against a backdrop of sharply increased tensions in the Middle East. Key events leading up to this attack involve:

- Nuclear Talks: Latest discussions between the US and Iran on Tehran's atomic program concluded without a deal, with indications of further discussions scheduled.
- Official Rhetoric: Before the attack, a senior US official had labeled Iran as “the leading state sponsor of terrorism” and delivered warnings regarding its missile program.
- Diplomatic Deadline: Allegedly, a deadline of 10 to 15 days had been presented to Iran to resolve the atomic standoff or face serious repercussions.
Reaction from Tehran
